Can Root Canals Be Completed in One Visit?

Root canals are an important, and incredibly common, dental procedure. If you’re due for your first root canal, this blog post is for you! Read on to learn what to expect of your first procedure.

How Long Will My Root Canal Take?

If you’re anticipating a root canal, we have good news for you. This routine procedure typically only takes one visit to our office. Wondering what to expect once you’re in the chair? We’ll walk you through it. First off, we numb the area so that you won’t experience pain or discomfort. Then, a small hole will be made in the tooth. Through that hole, Dr. Hooks will be able to access and remove the damaged pulp within. After ensuring the area is clean, he’ll fill and seal it–solving the problem and saving the tooth. Depending on the result, we may or may not get you set up with a follow-up to place a crown over the affected tooth.

Why Might I Need a Root Canal?

There are a few different reasons why a patient may need a root canal procedure. Generally, the procedure becomes necessary if there’s severe decay or damage to the tooth. You’ll generally know if there’s apparent damage to the tooth, but, if that’s not the case, there are other signs to watch out for. Intense tooth pain, severe discoloration, swollen gums, or a bump on the gums are all signals that a root canal may be in your future. Of course, give our office a ring as soon as you notice any of these!
