At Hooks Family Dentistry, we’re proud to accept most major dental insurance. However, we know that many of our patients aren’t sure exactly how their dental insurance plans work, let alone how they can maximize their dental benefits. Our team is always here to help you, but we’ve also put together the following tips so you and your family can get the most out of your dental benefits.
1. Get to Know Your Plan
Just because you have dental insurance does not mean that all dental procedures will be fully covered. To avoid any unexpected bills, get to know your dental plan in advance. Most plans will cover two annual cleanings, an exam, and X-rays. Beyond that, most plans cover a percentage of other procedures.
2. Stay In-Network
If your insurance is a PPO (preferred provider organization), then there are probably fee reductions for services provided by participating providers. In fact, staying “in-network” could get you a 10-35 percent reduction from the regular fee for a particular procedure.
3. Communicate with Your Dental Insurance in Advance
If you’re planning to get a dental procedure that is not an emergency, you can ask your dental provider for a “predetermination” of benefits. This way, your insurance company will process your estimate as they would an actual claim, allowing you to see exactly what they would have paid for the actual service.
4. Preventive Care Can Save You Thousands!
No matter what your dental insurance plan is, there’s one tried and true method for saving money at the dentist: preventive care. Along with a good at-home oral hygiene routine, you should also visit our office twice a year for cleanings and exams. This way, Dr. Hooks and our team can monitor your oral health and treat any developing issues before they become major problems.
Maximizing your dental benefits is a great way to protect your oral health. To ask our team any questions or to schedule your next visit to our office, call us today!
