Bad breath

Halitosis can be an embarrassing and frustrating problem. Many of us resort to mouthwashes and mints to mask the smell, but the way to banish bad breath for good is to address the root cause. Be diligent about your dental care. In addition to brushing and flossing daily, use a scraper to clean your tongue and stay hydrated. Choose your toothpaste and mouthwash wisely, and chew gum when you can’t get straight to the bathroom to brush after eating.

Gum Disease

The key to preventing gum disease is controlling the plaque that causes it. Brush twice a day and always floss daily. By flossing, you’ll be able to access the plaque that hides between the teeth and gums, that would otherwise build up and cause the gums to become inflamed, leading, eventually, to gum disease.

Oral Cancer

According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, over 50,000 people are diagnosed with oral cancer each year. There are things you can do to lower your risk for the disease. Poor diet and cigarette and alcohol use are all important factors, so by eating a healthy diet and cutting out smoking and drinking, you’ll be less likely to be faced with oral cancer. Keep an eye on your mouth. If you see anything unusual, like sores or patches, see your dentist right away.

Cavities & Tooth Decay

The number one way to prevent tooth decay is to be dedicated to keeping up a great oral care routine. By brushing and flossing regularly, you’ll be able to prevent plaque from building up and causing decay, and eventual cavities. There are additional things you can do to keep those teeth healthy. Eat a healthy diet, avoiding acidic foods and those high in sugar and carbs whenever you can, and make sure you’re using a toothpaste or mouthwash that contains fluoride.
