How CEREC Works
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. What that boils down to is a restorative dental crown can be created in our office — instead of a dental lab. We make and place crowns in the same visit, saving you time and money. Thanks to the CEREC software, we can take high resolution and 3D images of your tooth that needs the restoration and design your crown to fit your tooth perfectly. Once we’ve settled on the shape and color of your crown, we send the digital image to our on-site CEREC milling machine. The machine uses the image to create your crown out of the same composite materials as traditional crowns, so it will be just as strong and secure as a crown made in a dental lab. Once it’s ready, we do a fitting to make sure it feels okay and your bite is unchanged, and then we bond the new crown to your tooth. All of this in just one visit to our office! It’s quick and convenient.

Dental Crowns FAQs
Can I eat if a dental crown falls out?
Dental crowns are often placed to support the structure of a tooth. Eating without your crown in place puts your tooth at risk for further damage.
How do you fix a dental crown that falls out?
If your crown falls out, attempt to gently place it back onto the tooth and contact our team immediately. If you’re unable to replace it, keep it in a safe place to transport it to our office.
How do I know if I need a dental crown?
Only a dentist can truly determine if you need a dental crown. Most patients who have a dental crown placed are suffering from severe decay, a broken tooth, or they’ve just had dental implants placed.
Are dental crowns permanent?
When taken care of properly, crowns can last up to 15 years. While this is a long-term solution, over time your crown may need to be replaced.
Do I really need a dental crown?
If it’s determined by our team that you need a dental crown, we strongly encourage you to move forward with treatment. We maintain full transparency with our patients and will only recommend treatments we truly feel are necessary.
